Harriet Chapel coordinates and provides food for the Thurmont Food Bank; helps staff and provides supplies for the School Supply Drive; volunteers at the Children’s Summer Lunches in the Park; contributes to Souper Bowl Sunday; adopts numerous families through The Thurmont Area Christmas Gift Program and sponsors events at Montevue Assisted Living. A lively group of parishioners gets together to make felt blankets to give to the elderly and to young children. Another group of volunteers makes Anglican Prayer Beads that have been sent all over the world to people with cancer and/or facing life challenges. Each spring Harriet Chapel also offers scholarships to local students who are pursuing education beyond high school.
Some of our efforts to help others are held in our Parish Hall and are open to the whole community. We host a Grief Support Group, Men’s Bible Group, and Peaceful Thursdays where we discuss scripture, inspirational videos and books. AA also meets in the Parish Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m.
